More Bear Stories
July 31, 20100 Comments
They seem to be all over the place.  It's a little too many bear stories in a short period of time for my liking.

Jack Hanna, the famous zookeeper, while hiking with his wife and a few other people in Montana's Glacier National Park, were confronted with a grizzly cub.  He sprayed the cub with pepper spray as everyone fled the scene.  Thank goodness no one was hurt.  Even if it's a cub I don't want to see it.  It just means mom is somewhere close.

Dennis Leary even had a recent bear experience at his home in Connecticut.  He said:
'5:30 on a Sunday morning about a month ago…I get up, (get a) hot cup of coffee, go outside, have a cigarette…I'm in my underwear, not a bright thing to do either. And like that, a bear pops up in the driveway out of the woods…It's a huge black bear…He's right in front of me.

The first thing they say (is) make yourself big. Me in my underwear, I look like an even bigger toothpick…Bears will eat you because their cubs are nearby but they will also eat you if you're just an annoying guy…All of a sudden the bear looks at us and he just ambles off.'

Hugh Laurie making a Record
July 31, 20100 Comments

Hugh Laurie, known for his role on House, is releasing a Blues Album through Warner Music Group.

He's quoted as saying:
'I am drunk with excitement at this opportunity. I know the history of actors making music is a chequered one, but I promise no one will get hurt. I am particularly thrilled to be working with Joe Henry, who has produced some of my favourite records of all time, and I can't wait to get started.'

I personally can't wait to hear it.  I don't watch House all the often but when I do I get hooked on the episode immediately.  Anyway, lots of people mention his guitar playing, that I don't remember, so at least he's a real musician.  Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

Ever since 'The Girls Next Door' I've really taken a liking to Hef. Not enough that I would want to date him, even to live in the Playboy Mansion, I don't understand how those girls do it.  But I think that this will be a really cool documentary and I can't wait to see it. He certainly has lived a full and interesting life.

X Games 16 - Day 2

So I've been trying to watch as much of the X Games this year as possible.  Hopefully watching all these extreme sports I'll get inspired to really go for it this year with snowboarding.  (Oh yeah, it's already time to start thinking about it again.  We already put deposits on our season passes.)

I was excited to see Shaun White skateboard in the Skate Vert competition.  I thought he did a great job but he ended up with the Silver.  I found some video if you didn't catch it.

Later in the coverage we were watching Motor Cross where Paris Rosen was involved in the worst crash I've ever seen.  While he was attempting to do a front flip he landed on his neck.  I will warn you that this isn't something you should watch if you're sensitive.  According to reports he's able to move his toes so thankfully he should have a full recovery.

Sweet Valley High - 10 yrs Later
July 31, 20100 Comments

Francine Pascal, the author of the Sweet Valley High Series, has traveled 10 years into the future with the characters Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield and is writing a new series about the twins.  For those of you who have never heard of these books must not have been a teenage girl in the 80's/90's.  I was more of a Babysitter's Club girl but since I loved to read I would borrow these from friends and it was always a good story.

The first of the new line of books, Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later, is set to hit the shelves in 2011.

The American Cancer Society has released findings from a study proving that if you sit for long periods of time you can be shortening your life span.  Here are the actual details:

'Researchers spent 14 years studying 120,000 men and women and found that the more time they spent sitting, the greater their risk of dying prematurely. The stakes were especially high for women. Researchers found that women who spend six or more hours sitting had a 37 percent chance of dying, as compared to women who spent less than three hours a day in a chair. It was 17 percent higher for men.'

Between Two Ferns
Metalocalypse
July 30, 20100 Comments
So while at the 'Carnage Party' the other night a girl sat at our table and I heard her quoting my all time favorite cartoon series 'Metalocalypse'.  Most people haven't seen it but if you love metal or just hilarious cartoons about music you need to check it out.  I tried to find some clips that would show a bit about the characters and some of my favorite clips.  BEWARE:  There is quite a bit of colorful language in the clips.  Just a warning, if your sensitive.

Opening Credits:  A little hard to understand but the theme music is awesome

So here are some clips of the band members.  I few have their own montages so it was easy, for the others I had to improvise.

Nathan Explosion - Lead Singer

Murderface - Bass

Skwisgaar - Lead Guitar

Toki - Guitar

Pickles the Drummer

I found a few other clips that I love.  Hope you enjoy!

Mozzarella Sticks
July 27, 20100 Comments
So I had a half package of won-ton wrapper laying around so I figured I would try to make some homemade mozzarella sticks.  My parents had mentioned that they made them this way once and loved them so I figured I could find a recipe somewhere.  I stumbled upon a "blog" and found a simple recipe decided to make a few changes so it worked for me.

I used some cheese sticks that I bought, cut into thirds

Place in the center

Wrap, dab with water and Seal

I used my deep fryer and they came out great

Chicken Pot Pie
July 27, 20100 Comments
I've been really slacking on taking pictures of the stuff I'm cooking.  So I figured I'd use some older stuff to make room for a bunch of new stuff I've added to my upcoming cooking list.

Here is a Chicken Pot Pie that I made and froze in individual containers for quick, easy and healthy meals in a pinch, or if I'm just too beat to cook.

Next time I make this I'll be using a more healthy solution to the cream of mushroom soup but I had it in the house and figured I might as well use it up.

I used Bisquick for the topping, still haven't messed too much with the dough here.  The altitude can be a bitch sometimes when you're used to cooking at sea level.

It looks much nicer plated.

Another day in the life....
July 24, 20100 Comments
For a day that was planned for me to be in the office turned into anything but. I should have known.  I had the luxury of driving to Denver not once, not twice and let me tell you, NOT FUN! Especially when you're in a 16 person van and have no idea where you're going.  At least the people I had to pick up were cool.

Now I'm stranded at a camp site (for no reason I can see) for at least two hours before I have to start heading down the hill. Then I can head back to my car in Lakewood and drive home. Since I'm at the property I took a few pics.  The best part of this place is the grill.

The really funny thing was that someone camping there had the same car that we drove here in almost a year ago.  Made me nostalgic for the way I felt when we first moved here.

So by time I get home tonight I'll have gone to Denver 3 TIMES!
1. To take Pete to the airport/Pick up Customer Group #1
2. Pick up Customer Group #2
3. Drop off Customer Group #2

That's just too many in my opinion. It's a 40ish mile long trip every time.

Red Rocks! Finally!
July 23, 20100 Comments
So we got tickets to the Pepper/Offspring/311 show at Red Rocks the other night, thanks Saint!  Anyway, Pete had to work so he got home and we headed down to Golden for the show.  I've been dying to get there and of course it was pissing rain.

We picked up our tickets but we needed to meet up with Pepper after their set for our backstage passes.  We headed up the steps to watch their set.  I've only seen them once before but they always go a great show.

I have to say that this is the most gorgeous place to go and see a show.   As you can see it was pretty packed by the time we looked for seats but it was a good angle for a shot of the stage.

It's only polite when waiting for free passes to be patient.  I learned a very important lesson that day.  Never try to look cute for an outdoor concert in Colorado in inclement weather.  I thought that my wedges were a great idea and very practical but my back is still throbbing and it was Tuesday night that we went.  I had Pete take a picture but it was raining so hard it came out horrible.  I looked like a drowned rat in heels.   I can't believe I wasted time straightening my hair.  Lesson learned, but still a good time.

When we got backstage I tried to take a few shots from the sound booth but it was hard and with that much equipment and water I didn't need to get electrocuted.
The crowd was huge
This is the rock that surrounds the backstage area.  It was hard to get a shot since we were so close up.

But it's breathtaking at night

The Offspring were great.  They played all their hits and I've never seen them live before.

I took a quick video but since the lights are facing us there really isn't much to see but you can hear some of it.

Here is 311 at the start of their set.  All in all a pretty good night out.

Getting the Oil Changed - One Year Later
July 23, 20100 Comments
So finally my car told me it's time to get my oil changed.  Pete and I were on our way into Denver so we just stopped off at the dealer who dropped us off at the mall down the road for the hour it would take to get it done.

Here's a shot of the food court where we stopped for lunch and the carousel.

When we finished up we headed back to the dealer and strolled the floor to check out some cars.  Pete fell in love with the Pilot and I have to say he looks good in it.

Frisco BBQ - June 18th
July 23, 20100 Comments
So we headed to Frisco to check out the BBQ festival that they hold every year.  I was pretty surprised with the turn out.

We grabbed some tickets and started to look around for something that we wanted to try.  Pete wanted some wings and Billy Gomers had them.

They were really good.  1st round anyway, we went back for more and to try another sauce but they were a little underdone.

I love a shrimp skewer so we headed over to Vinny's

Here it is, it was OK

Here is the stage they had set up with live bands all day

We kept wandering around and came across a few funny things.  This vendor I'm not too sure about.  I lived in Brooklyn for 11 years and never knew that we had our own style of BBQ.  But I guess this guy knows better.

Of course there was a mechanical bull

But this was the best, everyone needs more cowbell

When we got back to the shop to eat we heard that the pig race, that was set up next door to us, was getting ready to start.  Since I was in disbelief that this was really happening I had to take some video.

Later on we ended up getting more food since we were both still hungry.  It was nice to have sushi again but no where near as good as Wasabi, the local sushi place near our old place.

Mom's Trip - June 11-18th 2010
July 23, 20100 Comments
Of course while mom was out here for her trip the weather was not the best.  We had to cancel a few of the fun things we had planned but we still had a good time.

Since it was raining we got some movies and hung out at home while she got used to the altitude.  Alice in Wonderland was our pick.  I didn't get to see all of it the first time I tried to watch it so I was happy to see all of this time.  Plus I got to make her a nice dinner, Tuna Noodle Casserole, her favorite.

Since it was still dreary out I decided we needed to get out for a drive at least.  We headed West on 70 and did a quick drive thru Georgetown and Silver Plume.  I was interested in finding the Bakery that I've heard about in Silver Plume but I don't think I'll be going back.  I wish that we had stopped for pictures.

We headed up to the Continental Divide, and as you can see from the picture it wasn't the nicest day.
On the way down, I wanted to show her A-Basin where we ski.  We were surprised by a chopper when we drove by.  The bottom lift is getting replaced and they were choppering out the huge metal posts.  We stopped and I took some video.

When we got home we found a few of our new neighbors practicing their kayaking in the pool.  You never know what you'll find going on here.

Of course we did the stroll around town.  Hit all the shops and had some food at Tommyknockers.
Onion Rings

Fish & Chips

Steak Sandwich

Tundraberry Beer (my favorite) - I love that you can spend $1.50 and get a little beer

Like I said we hit up the shops and mom grabbed Pete the funniest shirt for a thank you gift.  I finally got around to shrinking it for him since they only had XXL in the store.  Doesn't he look happy?  In case you can't read it, it says:  Paddle Faster, I can hear banjos.

We hit up to Frisco cause I had an interview and figured after we would walk around and check out the shops.  I saw this advertisement for the "Beetle Fest".  I guess they take all the Beetle kill trees that have to be taken down and make them into furniture and other items.  Sounds like a cool idea.  It's September 11th so I hope we can get to it.

Here is some of the street artwork

They have some funny things in the shops on Main Street.  Lots of stuffed animals.....
Buffalo (a little hard to see)
 Sheep?  I think anyway.

We also took a day to wander around Breckenridge.  I didn't really take any pictures.  We hit up my two favorite places.  The Elk Jerky vendor, it's a little pricey but soooo good.  I meant to take a picture of it but never got around to it.  Next time I grab some.

We also went to a fur shop on the main strip and I tried on the best fur coat I've ever encountered.  Not the most flattering pic but oh, well.  I love it!  Plus I do think that a fur coat & Colorado are the perfect fit.

When dad was here he wanted to check out a cookie shop that was recommended to him from a guy he works with, "Mary's Famous Mountain Cookies".  We never made it so I wanted to send some home for him.  The cookies they made are 1/4 pound and we got a variety to try ourselves and boy were they good.

We also treated ourselves to some truffles.  I thought I had a pic of them but I guess not, here's the bag.
