Hipsters vs Lumberjacks
August 01, 20120 Comments
Girl: I think I'm going to be a lumberjack tomorrow.
Friend: But then how will we tell you apart from the hipsters? I mean really, what's the difference between a lumberjack and a hipster?
Girl: One of them has a job.

Thankfully nothing was damaged to badly and it didn't spread to the mall there.  City workers fixed the dock and the free concert that was planned resumed shortly after.

Don't piss off your ex-band mates
July 07, 20120 Comments
Webster Hall, East Village, around 8.15pm

A Crazy ex-band member stormed into a dressing room and slashed two members of his former band, the Cro-Mags, with a hunting knife before a gig.

Harley Flanagan, 42, former bassist, and one of its founders, and a Jiu-Jitsu expert, was taken down by security and suffered a broken leg, before police handcuffed him to a chair.

McCarren Pool opens to Choas
July 04, 20120 Comments
A 50 million project to refurb McCarren Pool and reopen it after 30 years, blocks away from where we used to live, broke out into chaos.

Teenagers started attacking police after getting in trouble for doing back flips into the pool. According to a witness "All Hell Broke Loose".  Not a surprise since there isn't a fee to use the pool and only a few blocks away it turns pretty ghetto.

Here is a shot of the pool in it's heyday...

The Lost Subway Station
June 20, 20120 Comments
Built in 1904 this pride and joy of the MTA was closed to the public over 40 years ago.  You can now ride the 6 train thru the station but cannot get out.  I might have to do this on my next trip home.

Stupid Drunk Drivers
May 31, 20120 Comments
What an idiot.  This bit*ch was stupid enough to do 15 shots then get behind the wheel.

She drove her boyfriends Benz into a 96 year old women's house in Long Island.  The women's grandaughter, who has not been named, told the New York Post: 'My grandmother came down and there's the passenger from the car standing in her kitchen.

'She asked him, 'Who are you? Why are you in my kitchen?’ And the guy said, 'I can't answer any questions, I've just been in an accident.' Then he tried to shake her hand.'

Snakes in the City

Here are some snakes taking a break from the heat in a fountain in Columbus Circle, 59th Street.  I want to know where did they come from.  Creeps me out I used to walk by that fountain EVERYDAY!

I hate Bees
June 05, 20110 Comments

A swarm of bees disrupted life in New York City this week when they descended on this Little Italy mailbox. The block was shut down for several hours as beekeepers worked to move the insects to a safer location.

No more Regis & Kelly
January 27, 20110 Comments
This is too bad.  I don't watch much morning TV but since moving here I really love seeing NY and hearing about the things I used to see everyday so we watch it every once in awhile.  Regis announced that this will be his last year on the show.  His stories and freestyle monologue are what make that show so great.  Not that I don't love Kelly Ripa, she does say some funny stuff, but Regis will be missed.

Making a Living off Grilled Cheese
November 13, 20100 Comments
This story is crazy, Taken from the "NY Post"  I do have to say that I'm going to try his little trick for the crispy sandwich.

'The underground chef takes orders by text message, cooks his sandwiches on the stove in his brother's East Village apartment, and then meets his customers on street corners.

"I feel like a drug dealer because I'm handing people a paper bag and they're handing me cash," the unlicensed cheese pusher, who, fearing reprisals from the Health Department

The sandwiches go for between $5 to $7 depending on the type of cheese and bread or the addition of extras like bacon or jalapeños.

He grills in a pan with unsalted butter, then wraps the sandwiches in tin foil and pops them into a 500-degree oven for a few minutes to achieve maximum crispiness -- a trick he learned from his father.

It started with just a few friends, but now Ronnie is grilling 40 sandwiches a day, he said -- a volume he can barely keep up with.

A customer is quoted as saying:  "The sound the sandwich makes when you bite into it is incredible. There's a crispy buttered top, and then the bread is soft and the cheese strings out. It's better than any grilled cheese my mom ever made."

Someone broke into Cono's!
November 13, 20100 Comments
This was a shocker when I saw it in the "Post", Cono's is a restaurant that's very popular in our old neighborhood.  Anyone with a half of a brain should know not to try and steal from ANY Italian place in that 'hood.  Recently I've been watching a lot of the TV show Mobsters on the Bio channel and let me tell ya it all takes place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
