Truck in Flames
May 22, 20100 Comments
So as usual Pete and I were watching racing last night and Bret Raymer, while driving his truck, burst into flames.  I've never seen a truck just go up while driving and not after an accident.

According to Bobby Ray Ellison, a senior member of Jeff Gordon’s pit crew, 'You’re driving for several hours, lap after lap after lap, in a hot car, keeping yourself hydrated. You can hold it in for only so long. And what are you gonna do, take 30 seconds to hit the head when races are decided by milliseconds? Hell no. You’re gonna pee in your pants, which are specially equipped to absorb up to two quarts of urine.'

Today I paid, well Pete did, for my bartending course.  It's nice to know that 10 years corporate experience can't even get me a waitressing job.  A friend told me today that the people that he's tried to talk me up to for jobs instantly get intimidated by my experience.  So this will be a way to make some restaurant contacts and get the money for culinary school.  It will also get me an internship at Keystone which will hopefully lead to a job there which means free ski passes to all mountains in Colorado plus Lake Tahoe for your entire family and that's what it's all about here.

We now have a Wii on loan, for us to use, for about a month.  So mom/dad please send me the games until we figure how to get the console out here.

Other than that we watched the races at Texas Motor Speedway.

Both the Sprint and Nationwide races were rained out this week so they ran both races today.  Amazingly Denny Hamlin, who just had knee surgery 19 days ago to repair a torn ACL, rallied and won the race.

And as I said in the previous post, we watched the Mets game against Chicago.

We'll have some leftovers for dinner and off to bed.  We're doing a bunch of running around tomorrow then we have plans with friends tomorrow night so it'll be awhile before I'll get a chance to post anything.

Nascar Monday!
March 29, 20100 Comments
The race was rained out yesterday so Martinsville is being run today.

This is the first race that they are running the spoiler again. The pic below shows both set ups. The left is what has been running, the wing, and the right is what was used before moving to the COT (car of today) and what they are returning to today.

Pete was planning on hitting the mountain with Sheila today but she got called into work so Pete headed home to relax.  We had some food when he got here,

Biscuits & Sausage Gravy with Scrambled Eggs

I had Eggs on an English Muffin with Greens & Tomato

We watched the Nationwide race and had lunch, BLT's and Organic Tomato Soup

Then they hosted a Charity event where Legend Drivers come and compete in a 35 lap race.  Things were going good and everyone was having a great time but then a really nasty accident happened

Now mind you, all of the drivers competing in this event are between the ages of 55 and 73.  This was near fatal and it took forever to get them out of the cars and to hear that they were in stable condition at the hospital.  I made a comment to Pete about how they didn't have the proper equipment in the cars.  They even showed someone not waering a helmet, so I hope he wasn't running that way.  Scary and thankfully everyone is going to be OK.

Today Kurt won the race!  This is the 2nd year in the row he's won at Atlanta

There was a scary moment today when Brad Kazalowski and Carl Edwards did a little rubbin' and Brad went airborne.  You heard him say 'I'm not sure if I'm OK'.  That's something you never want to hear.  Carl was black flagged and called to the Nascar trailer to have to talk with race officials.  Never a good sign.

Another win for Jimmy
February 28, 20100 Comments
Today's race was at Vegas Motor Speedway.  We were hoping that our hometown boy, Kurt Busch, driver of the #2 would win.

It wasn't meant to be this year for Kurt even though he won the pole.  He hit the wall early on and was taken out of the race.

Kim Kardashian was Grand Marshall

Mike Bliss drove the car with her fragrance as the sponsor and she made a comment about the "Pink Jumpsuit", aka fire suit, he had to wear to match the car,

In the end it was JJ that won again this week.

I think it just reinforces the statement made by Kevin Harvick about that "golden horseshoe" they have helping carry them to victory.

Nascar time! This is Danica Patrick's last race until June.

Thank goodness cause I'm really over Danika Mania. The commentators are giving her a hard time cause she's acting like a baby when she messes up or gets wrecked. It's racing! and really if she wants any sort of respect in this series she needs to man up a little bit.  She blew off an interview cause she was too busy throwing a hissy fit.  It really just makes women participating in male dominated sports look horrible.  Thanks for that Danica.
